Hyderabad: The mother of deceased Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, who was denied entry inside the campus of Hyderabad University, has been admitted to a private hospital here due to high blood pressure.

Uday Bhanu, a PhD scholar who was beaten up by the police, is still in the ICU under observation.

Meanwhile, the Miyapur court will on Monday consider the bail plea of 27 students, including nine from Kerala, and two faculty members, who were arrested by the police in connection with the incidents. The students hailing from Kerala are Adithyan, Mathew Joseph, Muhammed Ajmal, Ashiq Muhammed, E.K Ramees, Musif, Muhammed Sha, Sreerag and Deepak.

The University authority has barred the entry of media and outsiders in the campus.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, in a memorandum, has sought President Pranab Mukherjee’s intervention into the Hyderabad University issue.

“I am approaching you to please intervene and ensure that the HCU [Hyderabad Central University] Vice Chancellor, who took a blatantly anti-Dalit stand, violating all established norms of social inclusion in the university, is removed forthwith,” the memorandum said.

“There is an ongoing dispute with the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor. The students, faculty and the entire university community have been agitating for redressing the circumstances that led to the tragic suicide of a bright research scholar, Rohith Vemula,” the memorandum said.

On Friday, the National Human Rights Commission had issued the notices taking suo motu cognizance of reports that there was an "emergency like" situation in Hyderabad University and there was no water, electricity, food, internet services and ATMs were out of order.
