Jammu: Five civilians including two women were injured as Pakistan violated the ceasefire by opening unprovoked firing at Indian positions along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday as people were celebrating Eid, official said.

A police officer said all the five were injured in Pakistan firing on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu region. Firing was still going on.

"The three women of Kishwar village were working in the fields when they were hit by splinters," the officer said. On the other hand, the men were from Shahpur village.

Defence spokesman, Col. Manish Mehta told IANS that "Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing again across the LoC" on Saturday.

"This second time, in Poonch sector. At 2.45 p.m. Pakistan troops opened small arms fire followed by 82 mm mortars and RPGs on Indian troops deployed in forward posts in Poonch sector.

"Troops on own side of LoC are retaliating appropriately."

Last night, Pakistan had resorted to unprovoked firing on Indian positions on the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
