The UAE Media Council has announced that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies or other modern tools to depict national symbols or public figures without obtaining prior official approval is considered a legal violation of media content standards.

The Council clarified that the use of AI to spread misinformation, incite hate speech, defame individuals, undermine their dignity and reputation or attack societal values and principles is classified as a media offence. Such violations fall under the provisions of the Media Violations Regulation and may result in fines and administrative penalties.

The authority urged social media users, media institutions and content creators to comply with existing laws and approved standards. It further emphasised the need to maintain professional and ethical responsibility when producing and sharing content.
