Dubai has launched a real-time virtual model of the emirate that will allow authorities to test urban plans, manage infrastructure and simulate emergency scenarios before they happen on the ground.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, announced the launch of the Digital Twin Platform, a 3D model of Dubai covering more than 195,000 buildings and 330,000 facilities and assets.

The platform is designed to support major government functions, including urban planning, infrastructure management, asset monitoring, rainfall simulation and evacuation planning.

Officials said the project will help decision-makers assess citywide developments through live data and advanced digital modelling, strengthening Dubai’s ability to plan for growth and respond to future challenges.

Sheikh Hamdan said the project marks an important step in Dubai’s efforts to become one of the world’s best cities to live, work and invest in, while strengthening its role as a global centre for innovation and digital transformation.

“We continue to build an integrated digital ecosystem based on data integration, artificial intelligence and qualitative partnerships between the public and private sectors, in a way that accelerates the development of innovative solutions that enhance Dubai's readiness for future changes”, said Sheikh Hamdan.

The platform is also expected to support Dubai’s smart city ambitions and contribute to an economy built on knowledge, technology and innovation.

Sheikh Hamdan said the digital twin would enhance quality of life and support Dubai’s position as a model for future cities.

“This project embodies the vision of [Vice President and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh] Mohammed bin Rashid in leveraging advanced technology and data to build a city more prepared for the future, supporting the targets of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, and enhancing the emirate's competitiveness and global leadership,” Sheikh Hamdan said in a post on X.

“In the race for excellence ahead, leadership will belong to the cities that possess integrated digital systems, adopt artificial intelligence applications through an integrated partnership framework that brings together the public and private sectors and entrepreneurs".
