The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology, known as Etidal, and Telegram have successfully removed 18 million pieces of extremist content and shut down 660 extremist channels during the second quarter of 2024. This collaboration targeted content from Daesh, Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Al-Qaeda.

According to a press release, 14 million items of extremist content and 305 channels linked to Daesh were removed. Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham witnessed the removal of 3 million items and 281 channels. Al-Qaeda's extremist content removal included 231,354 items and 74 channels.

On June 17, coinciding with the Hajj season, over 2 million pieces of extremist content were removed. The second quarter of 2024 saw a 12.82 per cent increase in propaganda activity from these organizations compared to the first quarter, reflecting a pattern seen in previous years during the Hajj season.

Since February 2022, joint efforts between Etidal and Telegram have resulted in the removal of 93 million items of extremist content and the closure of 14,193 extremist channels. The removed content varied across formats, including PDFs, video clips and audio recordings.
