Dubais latest traffic initiative expands remote work policies

Dubai: Dubai authorities have introduced a new plan to enhance traffic flow throughout the city, primarily focusing on implementing flexible working hours and remote work policies in both public and private sectors.

This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion across Dubai by offering alternative work arrangements.

Authorities in Dubai conducted a comprehensive survey to gather insights into the potential benefits of flexible working hours and remote work in alleviating traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.

With the digital infrastructure already in place, offices in Dubai can activate remote work for employees during emergencies, as demonstrated during recent heavy rains in April and May.

As part of the traffic flow plan, priority public bus routes will be developed to enhance trip times by up to 59 per cent.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) plans to expand Dubai's network of dedicated bus lanes to over 20km by 2027, aiming to further improve public transportation efficiency.

A policy will be developed to encourage school students to utilize school transport, with an anticipated 13 per cent improvement in traffic flow around schools.

The traffic flow plan, including various measures to enhance traffic management, was approved by the Executive Council during a meeting chaired by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.

Additionally, the Executive Council approved a policy to enhance community participation in shaping policies and government services, aiming to align them more closely with community needs and expectations.
