Dubai Police ensure safe Ramadan travels with iftar meals
text_fieldsDubai: Dubai Police have initiated a campaign to promote road safety during the holy month of Ramadan. Intending to curb the surge in traffic accidents that typically occur before iftar, the police have taken proactive measures to distribute iftar meals at high-traffic intersections.
As the call to prayer signals the end of the fasting day, roads become congested with motorists rushing to reach their homes for iftar. This rush often leads to an increase in traffic accidents as some drivers engage in risky behaviours to make it home in time.
In response to this annual challenge, Dubai Police launched the ‘Ramadan without Accidents’ initiative. This campaign, spearheaded by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic, aims to encourage motorists to drive cautiously during Ramadan.
The success of this initiative is attributed to the collaboration of various organizations. Partners such as the Department of Traffic Awareness, the General Department for Human Rights and several others have joined hands with Dubai Police to make this campaign possible.
Over the first week of Ramadan, Dubai Police distributed more than 71,000 iftar meals to motorists at high-traffic intersections. With the help of traffic officers, participating entities and volunteers, an average of 10,000 meals per day were provided to drivers.
