Dubai Police has confiscated 1,780 bicycles and electric scooters during a recent traffic safety campaign aimed at curbing unsafe practices. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with Al Rifa’a Police Station, resulted in the seizure of 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters and bikes within the Al Rifa’a jurisdiction.

The confiscations stemmed from violations such as the use of scooters and bicycles in non-designated areas, including public roads and pedestrian pathways, which posed significant risks to both riders and other road users. In addition, 251 fines were issued for breaches such as riding without helmets, ignoring traffic signals, and failing to equip vehicles with essential safety features like proper lighting and reflective clothing.

Dubai Police outlined a set of safety measures for riders to follow to ensure public safety. Key guidelines include:

- Using designated bike lanes and avoiding jogging or walking paths.

- Prohibiting passengers on electric scooters and avoiding vehicle overloading.

- Equipping bicycles and scooters with front and rear lights.

- Wearing helmets and reflective vests for visibility.

- Walking bicycles across pedestrian crossings instead of riding them.

- Maintaining safe distances from vehicles and pedestrians.

- Avoiding unauthorized modifications to vehicles.

- Refraining from towing or being towed by vehicles.

- Using rear and side lights, especially at night or during adverse weather.

The authority also urged the public to play an active role in promoting safety by reporting unsafe behaviors through the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police app or via the 'We Are All Police' hotline at 901.

This campaign underscores Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing traffic safety and ensuring the well-being of all road users. Authorities have called for strict adherence to traffic rules and safety measures to prevent accidents and reduce risks on the roads.
