Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the opening of two major bridges at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 on Al Khail Road, heading towards Jebel Ali. These bridges, which span a total of 1,350 meters, have a combined capacity to accommodate approximately 8,000 vehicles per hour.

The new bridges are part of a broader initiative by the RTA, aimed at reducing travel time by **Dubai Opens Two New Bridges, Promising 30% Reduction in Travel Time**% and increasing the capacity of existing intersections and bridges by an additional 19,600 vehicles per hour. The Al Khail Road Development Project, which includes the construction of 3,300 meters of bridges and the widening of lanes over 6,820 meters, has reached 80% completion, according to the RTA.

The Zaa'beel bridge, spanning 700 meters with three lanes, connects traffic from Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The Al Quoz 1 bridge, 650 meters long with two lanes, connects traffic from Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali, accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Improvement works as part of the project are underway across seven sites on Al Khail Road, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair and Jumeirah Village Circle. Al Jaddaf, for instance, will see a new lane added to improve traffic flow towards Deira, increasing the road’s capacity by 2,000 vehicles per hour. Additionally, surface road improvements will link traffic from Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Street towards Sheikh Zayed Road.

"Meydan area on Al Khail Road" and "Ghadir Al Tair on Al Khail Road" will also benefit from new bridges and surface road improvements, facilitating smoother traffic flows. At Jumeirah Village Circle, a 700-meter bridge is being constructed to connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Hessa Street.

Last May, the RTA completed widening works in Al Jaddaf and Business Bay, adding new lanes to improve traffic flow towards Deira and Business Bay. The plan also includes the opening of three additional bridges by the end of October to serve traffic towards Deira.

Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said, "Al Khail Road Development Project is a key strategic project aimed at developing parallel and supporting road corridors to Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. Al Khail Road is a major arterial road in Dubai, extending from the Business Bay Crossing to its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. It consists of five lanes in each direction, expanding to more than six lanes in some sections."
