Dubai’s ability to transform ambitious plans into completed projects has become one of the emirate’s defining strengths, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority.

Speaking about the “Dubai-it” initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Al Tayer said the initiative reflects a leadership approach centred on delivering results and setting new benchmarks for achievement.

He said Dubai’s development model is built on converting ideas into practical projects that create lasting economic, social and developmental benefits.

“Dubai-it” philosophy

Al Tayer said the initiative captures a philosophy that has helped position Dubai as a city capable of turning challenges into opportunities and long-term projects.

He recalled remarks made by Sheikh Mohammed during the inauguration of the Dubai Metro Route 2020 in 2020, when he said, "we say what we do, and do what we say".

According to Al Tayer, the statement became a source of motivation across government institutions, private companies and the wider community.

Transport projects as examples

Al Tayer said the philosophy is reflected in a number of major transport projects completed by the RTA.

He cited the Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines, the completion of Route 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the recently announced Dubai Metro Blue Line.

He also pointed to plans for the Dubai Metro Golden Line, describing it as another example of long-term transport planning.

Beyond public transport, Al Tayer highlighted projects including Dubai Water Canal, Infinity Bridge and a network of roads and bridges developed to improve connectivity across the emirate.

Focus on future mobility

The RTA chief said Dubai continues to pursue future transport technologies alongside major infrastructure projects.

He noted that autonomous taxis have already entered service and that preparations are continuing for the launch of commercial air taxi operations by the end of 2026.

Work is also progressing on the Dubai Loop project.

Al Tayer said these initiatives demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to innovation and its belief that progress is achieved through implementation, creativity and continuous development.
