Riyadh: Saudi Arabia Covid-19 app, Tawakkalna, got awarded the United Nations Public Service Award 2022. The award was for the app's institutional resilience and innovative responses to the pandemic, Arab News reported, citing Saudi Press Agency.

An annual forum that recognizes distinguished figures in public service hosted the award ceremony.

President of the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), Dr Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi said that the award proves the Crown Prince's strong leadership as well as relentless support given by the SDAIA Board of Directors chairman. Both of them strongly backed many initiatives started by SDAIA aiming to improve government collaboration and maximize the benefits of AI.

Alghamdi underscored the SDAIA's achievement both domestically and globally. He also stressed the efforts of experts in the Kingdom who have pushed it to the higher levels in technology.

He added that SDAIA's advanced infrastructure reflects Saudi Arabia's determination to accomplish its Vision 2030 goals.

Tawakkalna app was made to assist the Kingdom's administration in the battle against the pandemic.

The app granted electronic permits during the curfew imposed by the government for individuals inside the Kingdom when the pandemic was raging high. The app played a major role in restricting the spread of the virus. The app also provided Covid-19 related services like health passport verification, COVID-19 test and vaccine services, reviewing health travel requirements, and managing travel requirements.

Recently, SDAIA launched the Tawakkalna Services. The app, which is secure and digitally-enabled, provides many e-services regarding people's daily lives inside the Kingdom.
