Saudi Arabia has outlined a list of medical conditions that may prevent individuals from obtaining a Hajj permit, citing concerns over physical ability to complete the pilgrimage.

The Ministry of Health and the Public Health Authority said conditions include advanced kidney failure requiring dialysis, severe heart failure, liver cirrhosis, serious mental illness, dementia, advanced age and pregnancy in the final three months.

Authorities said pilgrims must meet health requirements that allow them to perform rituals without risk to their well-being.

The ministry also confirmed that vaccination against meningococcal meningitis is mandatory, with a single dose of the quadrivalent vaccine required at least 10 days before Hajj begins.

Covid-19 vaccination is recommended, particularly for vulnerable groups. Pilgrims are advised to receive an updated dose after January 1, 2025, with added emphasis on those aged 65 and above, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions such as heart or respiratory disease, kidney failure and diabetes.

The seasonal influenza vaccine is also required, with authorities recommending an updated dose, especially if the last vaccination was before September 1, 2025.
