Saudi calls for UN-backed peace proposals for Yemen

Riyadh: Saudi Arabian Defence Ministry has called for peace proposals sponsored by the United Nations to pressure Houthis in Yemen, Arab News reported.
The Kingdom's Deputy Minister of Defence, Prince Khalid bin Salman, has mentioned the same when he met the United States special envoy to Yemen, Timothy Lenderking, in Washington to hold talks on the Taiz conflict. The minister tweeted about him promising Lenderking Saudi led Coalition's support for Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council on efforts to resist Houthi offensives.
The minister's Twitter statement said that though the momentum of the truce remains high, he stressed the need for the international community's, as well as the UN's, pressure on Houthis to reopen the roads at Taiz, deposit revenues of the Hodeidah port and engage with peace talks.
Further, he repeated that Saudi Arabia wishes to reach a "comprehensive political resolution" on the Yemen crisis so that the country shall have peace and prosperity.
On April 2, a two-month ceasefire was initiated. It was meant to stop the hostile situation in Yemen, to reopen Sanaa International Airport, allow fuel ships into the Hodeidah port and open roads in many provinces, including Taiz.
