Saudi Arabia’s Justice Minister Walid Al-Samaani has launched the first phase of the Higher Diploma in Criminal Law program for judges serving in criminal courts. This initiative is part of the Kingdom’s broader efforts to modernize its legal framework under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the new program is designed to align with ongoing legislative reforms and bolster the quality of criminal justice. Minister Al-Samaani highlighted that the program is intended to promote rights, justice and transparency within the legal system, thereby enhancing the predictability of judicial decisions.

The Higher Diploma program aims to equip judges with a solid foundation in the fundamental principles and general rules of criminal law, enhancing their legal skills and the accuracy of their rulings. It focuses on the correct interpretation and application of legal provisions to improve the overall quality of criminal decisions.

The curriculum includes comprehensive courses that delve into criminal law principles, clarify procedural aspects and aid judges in accurately characterizing crimes. Additionally, it covers specific offences under Saudi law, detailing their penalties and the correct application of these legal statutes.
