Minor earthquake strikes near eastern Saudi Arabia, no damage reported

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded in the Arabian Gulf early Friday morning, according to the Saudi Geological Survey.
The tremor struck approximately 55 kilometres east of the coastal city of Jubail, in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, and was detected by seismic stations operated by the Geological Survey.
According to Arab News, the quake was triggered by tectonic stress caused by the movement of the Arabian plate and its ongoing collision with the Eurasian plate — a common source of seismic activity in the region.
Despite the shaking, the earthquake was classified as minor and officials confirmed that there was no risk to residents or infrastructure. The situation in the Kingdom is currently reported as safe.
No damages or injuries have been reported. Authorities continue to monitor the area for any aftershocks or unusual seismic activity.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the Gulf region, though they are rarely strong enough to cause significant impact.
