Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has announced the death of a Qatari citizen and the injury of an Arab resident in a maritime incident linked to military operations in the region.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said the two were on board a vessel that failed to return at its scheduled time.

The missing vessel was identified during routine monitoring and verification procedures carried out by the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security.

Maritime patrols launched search operations on Saturday evening after the vessel did not return as expected.

In the early hours of Sunday, June 28, the Maritime Search and Rescue Team located the vessel.

Search operations found that the Qatari citizen had died after being struck by shrapnel from military operations in the area.

The Arab resident who was also on board was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The ministry said his condition is stable.

The Ministry of Interior extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured resident a speedy recovery.

It said investigations and legal procedures related to the incident are continuing.
