Kochi: Kerala entrepreneur Tushara Ajith recently made claims of being the victim of a "jihadi" assault on social media. She posted seven live videos on her Facebook page alleging that she was attacked for starting a non-Halal restaurant. However, her official complaint to the police does not state the same.

BJP chief of Kerala, K Surendran had tweeted in support of the entrepreneur said that a group of Muslim fanatics brutally attacked her due to non-compliance with Halal in her hotel. He wrote: "What happened in Kakkanad is nothing less than Talibanism. I urge the people of Kerala to reject #HalalInvasion."

Several BJP leaders, Sangh Parivar sympathisers, and some Christian groups followed suit and made communally coloured remarks on social media about "jihadi invasion through halal food," reported The News Minute.

Tushara Ajith had started a 'Non-Halal' restaurant in Ernakulam six months ago and it had made headlines. She opened a second outlet in Kakkanad recently. The scuffle outside her restaurant took place on October 24, and the channel that broke news -Janam TV - did not reveal the names of the people involved.

According to Infopark police, the scuffle between Tushara, Nakul, and Benoy took place due to a property dispute. Nakul is a Hindu and Benoy is a Christian. Both men run stores in the same building and alleged that they were assaulted by Tushara, her husband, and two other people.

Infopark Circle Inspector Santhosh told The News Minute that her official complaint to the police did not mention that the attack was over the non-Halal board in front of her restaurant. Kochi city police commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam described it as a multi-partite civil dispute over leases and subleases.

Nakul and Benoy are in hospital with injuries to their legs. The police have registered a case against Tushara and her accomplices under section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous injury by dangerous weapons). The police have registered a case against Nakul and Benoy as well for misbehaving with Tushara.

Chakilam clarified that there is no communal angle to the incident as portrayed on social media.
