Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday announced the upcoming launch of a 'Blood Bank Traceability Application', aimed at unifying blood bank data across the state to ensure timely access to blood during emergencies.

The announcement was made on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. In a post on X, Vijayan said, “On this World Blood Donor Day, we salute all who voluntarily donate blood, offering new hope in moments of crisis. To ensure timely access during emergencies, the LDF Government is set to launch the 'Blood Bank Traceability Application', unifying blood bank data across Kerala.” He described the initiative as a major step towards a resilient, life-affirming future.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister elaborated on the significance of blood donation, stating that those who voluntarily donate blood are fulfilling a vital social responsibility. He said the Traceability Application would ease the distress of those urgently seeking blood by offering real-time access to information.

Explaining the functionality of the system, Vijayan noted that the application would be a centralised software platform, providing fingertip access to data from all government blood banks in Kerala. Once operational, it will allow people to access vital information related to blood availability from any location.

He also stated that efforts are underway to bring private blood banks under the scope of this platform. With the system in place, the required blood can be made available to patients in emergencies without delay.

Highlighting the broader vision, Vijayan added, “We need to transform our state into a place where 100 per cent voluntary blood donation happens. The Blood Bank Traceability project, which connects blood banks, is a significant step towards that goal.”
