Thiruvananthapuram: Award-winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan was taken into custody on Thursday for allegedly 'insulting and threatening' actor Manju Warrier.

The filmmaker of critically acclaimed movies including " Chola" and " Kayyattam", Sasidharan was arrested by Kochi City Police from Parasala in the state capital following the actor's complaint.

He was booked under Section 354D framing repeated and willful following of a woman amounts to stalking. He was later granted bail by the Aluva Magistrate court. Although he was eligible for bail at the police station by the nature of charges booked, Sasidharan demanded to be produced before the court saying that he had complaints to submit , but none against the police.

Commissioner CH Nagaraju reportedly said the film-maker was taken into custody following the complaint.

In her complaint, Warrier said that director Sasidharan had been frequently disturbing her with messages and attempting to insult her on social media.

According to the officer, the director was sending her unsolicited messages despite being blocked online.

The filmmaker reportedly shared posts on the actor on social media alongside sending messages to her.

In a recent post on Facebook, he claimed the actor was in danger, facing threat from people she was close to.

In a post on Instagram, he reportedly said the actress was in the custody of some people with vested interest.

Sasidharan's movie 'Ozhivudivasathe Kali' alongside receiving good reviews bagged the Kerala state government award for the best feature film of 2015.
