Thiruvananthapuram: Communist party of India-Marxist (CPM) Kerala state secretary MV Govindan stopped short of making official comments on behalf of the party, and said that the party's stand regarding the ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) will be spelt out by the party's national leadership.
Govindan however, added that he sticks to the stand that there is no use banning an organisation; and if it is an action against communalism, there is no point in banning outfits of one side alone.
The Centre released the exxtra-ordinary gazette notification dated 27 Sepptember 2022, regarding the ban early in the morning on Wednesday.
PFI''s affiliated entities like Campus Front of India (CFI), Rahab India Foundation (FIF), All-India Imam's council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO), National Women's Front (NWF), Junior Front, and Empower India Foundation are the other organisations that have been included in the ban.
In the notification, the government states that " PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts have been indulging in unlawful activities which are prejudicial to the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country and have the potential of disturbing public peace and communal harmony of the country and supporting militancy in the country." The ban is for five years.
