Congress files complaint against actor Vinayakan for disparaging remarks against Oommen Chandy
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Congress in Kerala has registered a complaint against actor Vinayakan for his disrespectful remarks about the late two-time former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who passed away on Tuesday.
Vinayakan, known for courting controversies time and again with his remarks, drew flak this time over a Facebook video of his in which he is seen asking ‘“Who is Oommen Chandy? Why are there three days (of mourning) for him? He has died, what should we do now? I am telling the media, they should stop (the coverage). You may think he is a good man, but I don’t think so. You know what he has done to Karunakaran, so just stop it and go away.”
Since the death of Chandy in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning till now, nearly a dozen TV channels in Kerala have been exclusively covering news related to his death.
Soon after the video went viral, Vinayakan promptly deleted his post. Nevertheless, public anger against the actor has been mounting, and shortly afterwardsafterwards, the Congress party lodged a complaint against him.
Many slammed Vinayakan for insulting the veteran Congress leader who served as the state’s Chief Minister twice from 2004-2006 and again from 2011-2016.
Chandy succumbed to cancer-related complications at the age of 79 in Bengaluru. He was part of the state cabinet four times and holds the record for continuously being elected from the same assembly constituency for 53 years.
He has run into this present controversy, as the Kerala High Court is looking into a petition seeking directions to be issued to Indigo Airlines to take action against Vinayakan for allegedly abusing a co-passenger on a flight operated by the airline, that happened last month.
Vinayakan won the Kerala State best actor film award in 2016 and is often seen in offbeat roles in films and is considered to be a highly temperamental personality.
