Pillion riders too must wear helmets from Dec 1

Kochi: The state government informed the High Court on Tuesday it would make helmet compulsory for pillion riders as well, in compliance with the Union government’s rules regarding this. The new rule will come into force from December 1.

The Central government enforced the amended helmet rules on August 9, making helmet compulsory for all two-wheeler riders above the age of four years.

 Meanwhile, the state government has withdrawn its appeal to challenging an order of High Court single bench expanding helmet rule for pillion riders as well.

However, HC rejected the appeal by the government and asked the state to submit within one week its stand on enforcing the Central rule.
