Kochi: Powers held by the state and central government are well defined in the constitution, responded Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Sunday to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement that Citizenship Amendment Act would not be implemented in Kerala.

The Governor said that no state can stay away from the Citizens Amendment Act (CAA) and everyone can work only within the framework of the Constitution.

Speaking in Kochi, Khan added that there was no need for people to be concerned about the new citizenship law. "The Citizenship Act is not aimed at a particular community," he said.

However, said he didn’t comment on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that Kerala would not implement the CAB.
