SC stays admissions to 4 medical colleges
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the Kerala High Court order granting affiliation to four private medical colleges in Kerala.
SC stayed the admission proceedings in DM Medical College, Wayanad, PK Das Medical College, Palakkad, SR Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram and Al Azhar Medical College, Thodupuzha.
There were a total of 550 seats in these colleges. In the Mop-up counselling that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, almost all the seats were filled.
With the apex court ruling, the future of the students admitted in these colleges remains a question mark. The court observed that the students admitted in these colleges should be dismissed.
A bench including Justice Arun Mishra passed the order while hearing a petition filed by the Medical Council of India (MCI) challenging the admissions in these colleges.
MCI had earlier denied the permission for initiating admission procedures in these colleges as they lack basic amenities prescribed in guidelines.
But the managements approached the HC and obtained a favourable ruling. Following this, MCI moved the Supreme Court and mooted for emergency hearing of the petition.
Considering the plea, SC took up the case on Wednesday and ruled a stay on the admissions. The court also said that it will hear the arguments on Thursday.
