Balabhaskar; condition continues to be critical

Thiruvananthapuram: The condition of violinist Balabhaskar who was severely injured in a road accident on Tuesday continues to be critical.

However, the condition of his wife Lakshmi has been improving.

Their two-year old daughter Thejaswini Bala had died in the mishap. The couple's relatives have decided to embalm the body.

Balabhaskar is responding well to medicines, the doctor's said. The musician who suffered injuries in vertebral column and central nervous system, underwent an emergency surgery on Tuesday.

The accident took place at Pallippuram in Thiruvananthapuram when the car in which the family was travelling rammed a tree, killing Tejaswini.

Balabhaskar, Lakshmi and driver Arjun suffered severe injuries. Police said that the driver lost control of the vehicle after dozing off.

The family was returning to Balabhaskar's house in the capital after a temple visit at Thrissur. The violinist and wife were childless for 16 years before they were blessed with Tejaswini.

Balabhaskar is known for his stage performances in and outside Kerala and owns a music band called 'Balaleela'.
