Fuel shortage: KSRTC to cut 3 lakh km running distance
text_fieldsKannur: In the wake of financial crisis and fuel shortage, KSRTC has decided to cut bus services in 3, 33, 117 kilometres across the state per day.
With this, KSRTC bus services will be interrupted in various areas.
KSRTC authority has directed zonal officers to follow the direction without fail.
During Onam season, the authority has directed to cut down 40 percent of services and the new order has been issued to reduce the daily fuel usage.
KSRTC operates 5,400 schedules in the state. Among these, services that are not earning at least Rs 8, 000 per day will be cancelled.
The company reportedly spends Rs 3.5 crore for diesel. In order to reduce the expenditure by Rs 2.5 crore, the running distance will be cut down.
At present, KSRTC operates service in 18, 03, 279 kilometres and it requires 4, 51, 267 litres diesel for this service. If the service is limited in 14, 70, 162 kilometres , the diesel usage will be reduced to 3, 70, 999 litres.
With this, KSRTC aims to find a temporary solution for financial crisis.
According to sources, the company has to pay arrears of Rs 185 crore to the oil companies. An amount of Rs 22 crore should be paid to tyre companies too.
The fuel shortage became a crisis for KSRTC after the diesel companies refused to supply without payment.
