Kannur Airport: Decisive ILS test over towards final clearance

Kannur: The final test of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) of Kannur international Airport went through on Tuesday paving way for the final clearance by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). An Air India Express Boeing 737-800 aircraft made a test flight in the air corridor of the airport near Mattanur.

The aircraft left Karippur airport at 7.51 in the morning and reached the aerial boundary of Kannur around 8. It flew within the aerial boundary for two rounds without landing, for testing the ILS being functional. The aircraft returned to Karippur at 8.34 am. Captain Sharan was in command of the test flight.

It is hoped that with this test flight, the DGCA clearance for the licence would be complete within a few days, said Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) Managing Director Tulsi Das.

The aircraft that was used for Tuesday's test was similar to the one that had made a test landing on 20^th last month. On that day inspection was completed for the DVOR (Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Voice Range) that controls the voice communication within the approach path of the airport.

On that day, the same aircraft had successfully tested connectibility of the airport's aerobridge for passengers to move in and out of the aircraft.
