SSA to run classes from 1st standard to 12th

Thiruvananthapuram: Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) will run all the classes from 1st standard to 12th. SSA and Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) will be merged.

The state Cabinet meeting decided to form a new SSA in the wake of the Central Government's new decision to bring SSA and RMSA under one institution.

Hitherto, elementary level education was under aegis of SSA and RMSA managed from 9th to 12th standard. These were functioning under two separate societies.

Both the societies will be dissolved and will be replaced with a new one. Assets and liabilities of the present societies will be handed over to the new one.

A governing council with education minister as the president and an executive committee with Public Instruction Secretary as president will be formed.

Bylaws and guidelines of the societies will be formed within one month. The new SSA will be governed under one head. The new head will be appointed after forming the society.

Offices of SSA and RMSA at district and taluk levels also will be merged.
