Chengannur: The legislative constituency witnessed heavy polling in the bypoll on Monday. According to preliminary estimates, 76.27 per cent polling has been recorded.

The voting began at 7 am. Despite heavy rains, heavy polling was seen in almost all of the polling booths.

Malfunctioning of EVMs and intermittent cut in electric supply did create problems for voters at a few booths.

The highest percentage of polling, 87.02 per cent, in the constituency was recorded in 1960, when K.R. Saraswati Amma contested on Congress ticket. .

In 2016 legislative assembly elections, the polling recorded was 74.36 per cent.
