Varappuzha: Akhila, the widow of SR Sreejith in Varappuzha, joined the government service as a village assistant on Wednesday, nearly two months after her husband was killed under police custody.

Akhila reached at North Paravur taluk office along with her brother brother-in-law Renjith to join the duty at around 10 a.m. She produced the appointment letter and related documents before the Tahsildar for verification. Akhila has been assigned to the A3 section of the office.

Akhila conveyed her gratitude to the State government and vowed to continue her fight to bring all the police officers involved in the murder of her husband before the law, while speaking to the media on the occasion.

The State government last week handed over a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to Sreejith's family and also appointed his wife at the taluk office.
