Kottayam: Popular detective novelist Kottayam Pushpanath alias Pushpanathan Pillai has passed way. The 80 year old breathed his last at his residence here. He has written more than hundred detective and mystic novels.

The demise follows the death of his son, Salim Pushpanath, well-known wild-life photographer, who passed away just weeks ago. Burial of Kottayam Pushpanath will take place at CSI Cathedral church at Kottayam at 3 pm on Friday.

Pushpanath, who was a teacher by profession, opted for a career in writing after voluntary retirement from government service. During the peak of his writing, he had a ready readership for his suspense-filled detective plots, and was avidly read by the youth.

Many of his works have been translated into Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and others. Several works including Brahmarakshass and Chuvanna Angi were adapted as screenplays.

The deceased is survived by wife Mariyama and two children.
