Kannur: The family of Auto driver Unais, from Pinarayi of Kannur, accused the police of torturing him in custody leading to his death on May 2.
A letter written by Unais said that he was tortured by police in custody.
The hospital records also show that Unais was admitted to hospital as he was suffering from severe pain due to police torture.
Unais was taken into custody on February 22 by Kannur police and beaten up for hours. On the third day he was admitted to Kannur co-operative hospital, after he passed blood in urine, his brother Navas said.
The family alleged that despite approaching the police with hospital records that said the death was caused by police excess, police did not accept their complaint.
