Dr. ECG Sudarshan passes away
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Dr. ECG Sudarshan, prominent Keralite scientist passed away in Texas, US. He was 86 years old.
ECG (Ennackal Chandy George) Sudarsan had been nominated nine times for Nobel Prize in physics.
Sudarsan rewrote Albert Einstein's theory through the discovery of Tachyon particles in quantum optics. Famous scientist Vaidyanath Misra was also with Sudarsan in his efforts that led to the discovery of the tachyons. The scientific community called the discovery as 'Quantum Zeno Effect'.
Sudarsan who studied at Kottayam CMS College and Madras Christian College, gained his doctoral degree from Rochester University of New York. Later he associated himself with top universities across the world. In the meantime he served IISC Bangalore (1973-84) and as director at Chennai Institute of Mathematical Science (1984-90). He was president of Srinivasa Ramanujam Institute founded at his hometown, Kottayam.
Sudarsan is survived by wife Banumathi and three children.
