Tripura tells CPI-M to have new sense of direction: Karat
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: CPM should come to grips with the need for a new sense of direction and this was the lesson on the political and ideological struggles given by Tripura poll results, said Pakash Karat, Polit Bureau member and former General Secretary of CPM. He said that the party congress will discuss this in detail.
Karat was making the key note address at the valedictory session of the study class at EMS study Centre, Vilappilsala on 'Contemporary India: Issues and Prospects'. The cause of Left's downfall was the consolidation of anti-left votes which was compounded by the BJP's money power. The party will be able to face and overcome the setback of electoral result. The CPM did win 45 per cent of votes there which showed it had the capacity for a come back and to overcome the present crisis.
Tripura also tells the party that a new sense of direction should be given to the party, he added. The party also suffered the impact of the Congress party's policy adopted over the last one year. Even the booth-level members of the Congress had sought asylum in the BJP which put the party in a crisis.
In view of the setback in Tripura, and the challenges raised by BJP in the county, the party congress will debate new political strategies. Karat also stressed the need to strengthen the fight against Modi government's neo-liberal politics and Hindutva agenda.
