Manjeri: A court here has sent notice to TV channel authorities who carried news allegedly defaming National Women's Front president A.S. Zainaba.

Malappuram Judicial 1st Class Magistrate Court has ordered chief of the channel Rahul Sivasankar and Anand Narasimhan, news anchor to be present before the court on 30th August.

The court action was following a petition filed by Zainaba regarding a news broadcast by the channel in the wake of Hadiya case.

Last year, on 30 August, a news story was broadcast along with interview of Zainaba in the channel. The news had stated that Zainaba was leading an effort by inducing girls of other religions to convert into Islam.

Zainaba pointed out that the news was baseless and fabricated with malicious intent. She contended that some parts of her interview were extracted and made into news for telecast. This caused defamation, Zainaba claimed in her criminal case filed with the court.

The court action of summoning the channel officials came after it examined the documents produced by the complainant.
