Karipur's new international terminal set to open soon
text_fieldsKondotty: The new international airport will be open to the passengers by the end of August.
However, the sanction for the medium and large aircrafts are yet to be obtained. With this, the problem of passengers having have to wait for hours before exiting the terminal is expected to be resolved.
The terminal constructed as per the international criteria with advanced facilities will start functioning on a trial run from next week. The decision is to make the airport full functional and to officially inaugurate it by the end of August.
The airport will handed over to the Airport Authority of India by July 31 after completing all finishing works.
The terminal which is a two-storey building is spread across an area of 17, 000 sq.meters can accommodate 916 passengers in total. As per the international criteria, it can accommodate 1, 527 passengers in an hour.
There are 44 check-in counters, 48 immigration counters, 20 customs counters, 5 conveyor belts and 5 X-ray machines as well.
