Stern nun; Bishop will be quizzed

Kottayam: Bishop Franco Mulakkal will be quizzed as the nun who raised a sexual allegation against him stood firm in her complaint. The nun, in her statement given to Vaikkom DySP K. Subhash, alleged that she was raped 13 times. The 46 year old nun told that though months passed, she was compelled to file a complaint with the police as her complaint was not honored at the level of church authorities.

The nunhas given details of the rapes that happened between 2014 – 2016 in a 72-page statement she gave during the session that last till 4.30 pm.

The nun made it clear that she stood by her complaint even as pressure was mounting on her to revoke the complaint.

Her confidential statement will be recorded before Vaikkom Magistrate on Monday or Tuesday. The accused bishop will be questioned at Jalandhar after the magistrate records the statement. Statements will be recorded also from the nuns who stand in support of the victim.

Meanwhile, the police has started an enquiry into the complaint filed by the bishop. The bishop accused that four people including the nun, who gave complaint against him, and their relatives tried to abduct and threatened to kill him.

Police is trying to question the brother of the nun, whose name is mentioned in the complaint.

The nun denied the bishop's allegations that the complaint is a part of a vendetta after she was removed from the post of Mother Superior. She accused that the complaint was filed to weaken her mentally and pull her back from legal actions.
