Govt notifies teacher to student ratio as 1:40

Thiruvananthapuram: In order only to keep on job the high school teachers who might lose their posts this academic year, the state government has gazetted an order in which the teacher-student ratio is re-fixed as 1:40.

At present, teacher to student ratio is 1: 45. The order will be executed considering government schools in a district as one unit and an educational agency (read management) as one unit. The rearrangement of the teacher to student ratio will be used as basis for redeployment of the protected teachers to their parent institution. The teachers who are protected by rearranging the ratio shall be regularized in the vacancy next reported in their category.

No new appointments in the existing categories will be approved when protected teachers are available. Subject ratio also should be strictly followed while allowing the protection. This ratio may be used to maintain the language teachers also.
