Union stands in the way of KSRTC reforms -Thachankary
text_fieldsKannur: Controversy is at its peak as the left-alligned CITU and AITUC join INTUC in protests in KSRTC. The protestors are desperate as they deem nothing to be steered in the right direction although the LDF slogan "Everything will be right" and government's anniversary tagline "The government is in right direction" still gleam in streets.
Tomin J. Thachankary, KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director, issued a letter of warning to the unions with a reference to their conference to declare the protestscheduled for July 24. Copies of the letter have been sent to the transport minister and Chief Minister's office.
Thachankary blames that the union is not allowing getting rid of bad habits. But only rarely do Left-aligned unions pick quarrels with, or come out against the management under the left government.
It is when KSRTC is being steered in the right track that unions are coming out with protests . It is not the government's policy to destory unions. However, only permitted powers and rights should be exercised, Thachankary says in the letter.
Labour unions will not be allowed to interfere with the authority of the management. The policy of preceding managements of succumbing to long-sandng habits, is weakening KSRTC.
Certain misconducts in the corporation are also mentioned in the Chairman's letter. Rs. 500 crore is required to settle the liability incurred due to non-payment of amount collected from the employees to the bank.
According to Susheel Khanna reports, many of the depots are a liability. There are 35 depots that operate less than 50 buses. Each depot incurs expenditure of Rs. 69 crore for employees. These depots are maintained only to provide jobs for many. Such bad habits are posing a hindrance for providing salary reforms and promotion for the employees.
