Strong winds and heavy rain forecast
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in parts of Kerala till July 13. IMD has also issued a warning for fisherment to stay away as strong winds (60km/hr) and huge waves (10-12 ft) are likely along Kerala's coast.
Strong winds from westerly direction along and off the coast of Kerala and Lakshadweep area are forecast. Sea conditions will be rough in southwest, central and north Arabian Sea.
At the same time, the monsoon death toll rose to 75.
State Disaster Management Authority said that six relief camps are functioning in state, including three in Alappuzha, one in Kottayam, Idukki and Kozhikode.
Heavy rain (ranging from 7-11cm to 12-20cm) will continue till Friday, said IMD director K Santosh.
Over the past 24 hours, Vythiri in Wayanad received maximum rain (11cm), followed by Vaikom (10cm), Palakkad (9cm), Mananthavady (8cm), Idukki, Munnar, Ottappalam and Parambikulam (7cm).
Both, IMD and KSDMA, have asked fisherment not to venture into the sea.
