High Court restrains college from demanding bank guarantee
text_fieldsKochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday in an interim order restrained a medical college from demanding a bank guarantee for MBBS admission.
While action on a petition filed by Navya Rajeev of Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram, the directed the principal of Travancore Medical College in Kollam to admit the student for MBBS course in state merit seat without insisting to furnish a bank guarantee for five years. Justice K Surendra Mohan has also issued notices to the state government, commissioner for entrance examinations, admission supervisory and fee regulatory committee and Travancore Medical College.
The petitioner had obtained a rank of 1,803 for medical and allied courses in Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Exam (KEAM) 2018.
As per the allotment memo, the petitioner was allotted admission to MBBS course in Travancore Medical College in state merit seat and was directed to join on or before July 12th.
When the petitioner approached the college for admission, she was directed to furnish bank gurantee for fee to be remitted in the next four years. In the petition filed to the high court, she contended that the state government, commissioner of entrance exams, or the admission supervisory committee has not empowered the college to collect bank guarantee from the candidates for admission to MBBS course. However, she has been directed to furnish bank guarantee on or before July 11th.
