NIA case: Solidarity calls for State govt's intervention
text_fieldsKozhikode: The actions of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on allegations of forced religious conversion and attempting to smuggle women to Syria, based on complaint by a girl resident in Gujarat, are one-sided and highly prejudiced, said Kerala Sate President of Solidarity Youth Movement, P M Salih.
He called upon the state government to intervene in the matter.
Salih pointed out that the accused, Riyas had filed an affidavit in the court saying that the girl lodged the complaint under threat, and she was legally his wife.
“The court had let the woman go with Riyas and his family when Riyas filed a habeas corpus petition. It was for giving her accommodation during this time that Fawas and Riyas from Paravoor were arrested with charges under severe provisions and grounds. In fact, people are kept under judicial custody under severe anti-terrorism laws, for ordinary transactions of any citizen,” he said.
In the matter of Riyas who informed those including the chief minister that he was capable of proving his innocence, Salih demanded, the state government should make effective intervention and offer legal aid against unilateral NIA actions.
