Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain continued to lash parts of Kerala on Thursday with death toll in the state climbing to 16.

The incessant downpour and landslide continues to wreck havoc.

Ten people including five of a family were killed in Idukki. Another five of a family was killed in landslide at Adyanpara in Nilambur. Landslides occurred near Vythiri police station in Wayanad, almost partially destroying it. One person has been reported dead in Vythiri.

Landslide was also reported in Kalikavu and Karuvarakundu regions.

Many families went isolated in various places. Traffic was completely interrupted in Nilambur and also at 9th hairpin curve on Thamarassery Ghat Road due to mudslide. It may take almost two days for the authorities to clear the debris from the road.

Fire and Rescue personnel are carrying out the rescue operations in these areas.

In Kozhikode, a river has been overflowing to residential areas at Kannappankundu and one person has gone missing.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has convened a high level meeting to review the rain damages in the state. Revenue Minister and other higher officials will attend the meet.
