New Delhi: India reportedly would be grateful to generous help offered by foreign governments for flood-hit Kerala but would not accept them.

Sources in Delhi say that India was ‘extremely’ grateful for offer of help. However, the nation would soon use its own resources to rebuild Kerala. It is a “Thank you” but “No, thank you’ according to Times of India.

This polite rejection of foreign help, however, would not affect private contributions from around the world.

The focal point of the latest debate is the staggering offer of Rs 700 crore to Kerala by UAE’s PM Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. PM Modi expressed gratitude to the Dubai ruler in a tweet.

In the aftermath of devastating flood, offer of help poured in from foreign nations including Qatar (Rs 35 crore) and Maldives ($50,000), aside from UAE’s multi-billion offer.

India during the Uttarakhand floods in 2013 had politely rejected foreign help.
