Painting against Kathwa incident: Artist's house attacked
text_fieldsThrithala: The house of artist Durga Malathi was attacked by an unidentified mob on Thursday night. A jeep parked in the courtyard was badly damaged.
Durga Malathi, a native of Palakkad district, had painted a picture, protesting against the Kathwa rape-murder case, which triggered several posts o rage and threat from many.
The attack was reported by Durga herself via Facebook. In the post, she criticised the silence of the mainstream against the continuing attacks on her.
In the post she said, “Yesterday they pelted stones at my house... broke the glasses of our vehicle. I received a lot of abuse and death threats in my (FB) profile. Anyone can be attacked in this so called progressive state of Kerala, if their religious sentiments are instigated... Seeing the silence of many, I think many believe that I deserve all these... I have to remind myself often that I am living in a democratic nation... If I am denied justice I will have to believe that democracy is a blatant lie...”
