Interfaith marriage: Mosque committee likely to be booked for boycott call
text_fieldsMalappuram: Police is looking into the possibility of filing a case against a mosque committee in the district, after it had allegedly issued a circular urging the Muslims in that locality to boycott a family for allowing their daughter to marry a Christian man, an official said Wednesday.
The incident came to light after a copy of the circular was reportedly posted by the 26-year-old Jaseela’s uncle on social media on October 23, criticising the action of the mosques committee.
"We have received a complaint from a lawyer through an e-mail. It is being explored for any chance of registering a case in the matter," Superintendent of Police, Malappuram, Debesh Kumar Behara told PTI.
The complaint has been forwarded to the Deputy Superintendent of Police office, Perinthalmanna for an inquiry, he said.
The Kondiparamba Mahallu committee, which came to know about the marriage on October 18, had reportedly asked the Muslims in the area to cut off all contacts with the family for the alleged decision of Jaseela’s father to marry her off to Tiso Thomas, a Christian.
Unfazed by the circular, the family went ahead with its plan and conducted the marriage under the Special Marriage Act on October 20.
