Opposition wants 1-day special Assembly session to table solar report

Kozhikode: Opposition leader in the Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala Wednesday demanded that a special one day assembly session be convened to table the report of the judicial Commission that probed the solar scam, which hit the former Congress-led UDF government headed by Ooomen Chandy.

The state government had, on October 11, ordered a vigilance probe against Chandy in connection with the multi-crore-rupee scam, based on the findings of the Justice G Sivarajan Commission, which had probed it.

Speaking to reporters here, Chennithala alleged that the government was registering cases against senior Congress leaders of the erstwhile government after submission of the Commission's report.

Also Chandy had demanded a copy of the report and so the special one day assembly session should be convened and the report tabled, he said.

Chandy had said on October 16 that he was still in the dark about the findings of the commission and that the actual facts and findings, based on which the commission arrived at its conclusions, could only be known after he got a copy.

The Commission was appointed by the previous Chandy government after allegations surfaced about duping of several people of crores of rupees by prime accused Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan, who offered them solar panel solutions.

Chennithala said senior Congress leader and former Union Minister A K Antony would flag off a month long 'Kerala Yatra", in which alliance partners of UDF would participate, at Manjeswaram in Kasargod district on November 1.

IUML is a key partner in the UDF. The others are JDU and RSP.

Chennithala, who will lead the yatra, an initiative to prepare UDF ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, said a rally would be held at the beach here when the yatra arrives in the city.

IUML state president Panakkad Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal would inaugurate the rally, he said, adding, the march will conclude at Thiruvananthapuram on December 1.
