Salem: Two days after the Supreme Court allowed Hadiya to continue her studies, the 24-year-old on Wednesday said she did not believe that she had won freedom.

“I just reached here the day before and am not aware what restrictions are applied for me here. I am happy to have the opportunity to be back for my education. I want to meet and talk to those whom I love,” Hadiya told the press outside the Sivaraj Homeopathic medical college here.

“My demand in the court was freedom, the freedom to meet my husband, but the truth is that I am not free now. I didn’t get the freedom,” she said.

Asked whether the college would be another prison, she replied that will be known only after two days of stay. “Even my college is not clear over my boundaries and is in the process of figuring it out. “We should give them few more days, and I will be able to tell you whether I am really free or not,” she said.

She also said that though she tried to call Shafin Jahan, her husband, it was not successful.

Hadiya recalled that during her stay at home with her parents, there were several attempts to coerce her back to her old faith and for that purpose, some people had come from Siva Sakthi Yoga Centre to give counselling. “They had asked me to hold a press conference and declare that I have come back to my old faith.”

Hadiya added she had also been mentally tortured in the name of counselling.

Hadiya reached her college about 7 am Wednesday morning, after being escorted by police in a private vehicle from the hostel. She will be able to continue her studies only after certain procedures as she had left her studies mid-way.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the college is reported to have said that Hadiya would be allowed to meet Shafin Jahan in line with regulations.
