Kozhikode: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate, via video conferencing, the synthetic track at the Usha School of Athletics at Kinalur in the district on June 15.

Addressing a press meet, former national athletic champion P T Usha said the 400m eight-lane synthetic track was laid under the supervision of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Steel Authority of India (SAI).

"The two-layer track with all allied facilities is the third in the state, the other two being at Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam," she added.

The school spread over an area of 30 acres of land, was constructed with a grant of Rs 8.5 crore from the National Sports Development Fund, has besides the synthetic track, a mud track, a 40-bed hostel and gymnasium.

"The next step would be to install floodlights at the campus," Usha, who made all out efforts to realise her dream project, said.
