Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress on Wednesday questioned the central government's decision to provide 'Y' category security to four BJP state leaders and said it was against the principles of federal structure.

Opposition Leader in the Assembly Ramesh Chennithala said providing 'Y' category security to BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and three general secretaries, M T Ramesh, K Surendran and P K Krishnadas without consulting the state government, was not right and against the principles of federal structure.

"In case the four leaders were facing any threat, the state government should have been informed. It was the state's responsibility to ensure security to them," he said in a statement.

Only if the state government shows any laxity can the Home Ministry intervene, he said.

Here the state government has been completely kept in the dark and the Home Ministry has directly provided them 'Y' category security which is against the federal principles, he said.
